Novel coronavirus/COVID-19

The Novel Coronavirus is a new coronavirus that has not been previously detected. The risk of exposure to this unprecedented virus has little immediate risk; however, certain groups are at a higher risk. According to The Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the individuals who are at a higher risk are older adults and people with serious chronic medical conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, and lung disease.

The CDC's assessment is continuing to become more adequate as additional assessments are being conducted. Frequently visiting the CDC's website for real-time updates will keep you in the forefront with any new information.

Watch for Symptoms

Reported illnesses have ranged from mild symptoms to severe illness and death for confirmed disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases. According to the CDC, the following symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure. 

  • Fever or chills

  • Cough

  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing

  • Fatigue

  • Muscle or body aches

  • Headache

  • New loss of taste or smell

  • Sore throat

  • Congestion or runny nose

  • Nausea or vomiting

  • Diarrhea

Preventative Measures

Currently, there are vaccines available to prevent COVID-19. However, even after vaccination it is best to continue following CDC's guidelines.

To have the highest probability to prevent COVID-19, please implement these practices:

  • Wash hands your hands with soap for a minimum of 20 seconds (utilizing alcohol-based hand sanitizers are effective in prevention).

  • Avoid contact with eyes, nose, or mouth.

  • Keep a distance from others when you are sick and stay away from individuals who seem to be sick.

  • Avoid large crowds or gatherings.

  • Avoid non-essential travel.

  • Keep track of updates on https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/
